I doubt very much if any animal takes it's own life due to depression or misguided following but there must be quite a few examples of animals that die in order for the next generation to survive.

Can't think of any right now as I'm about to leave work but I'm sure others can Question Laughing

I thought that with Lemmings, every so often there is a "bumper" crop of them when conditions are favourable and that they get so densely populated that they have been seen falling off cliffs. I have an account of it on DVD somewhere (good old David Attenborough) so I will have a hunt for it. Confused

The suicide part is a myth but they certainly do have population explosions which can then lead to mass migrations and dies offs.

The majority of animals that die to allow future generations will be insects, I also think Salmon basically kill themselves to get back to a breeding location, using all their resources to get there with just enough left to spawn then die (or a large % do). Don't squid also die in big numbers at the end of a breeding season?

Some eels do I think.

(Die from the exhaustion of the journey to the breeding grounds)
