Hi
My 1 year old female royal is behaving oddly. She seems to be displaying all the characteristics of a snake in shed (rubbing cage furnishings and yawning a lot) but she seems to have also developed a wheeze. Can a wheeze sometimes be associated with a shed or is this evidence of something more sinister?
Thanks

Hi
She's heated by a ceramic bulb. Hot end of the viv is at 30 degrees celcius.
She is CB and has been problem free so far. I have increased the temp by about 2 degrees. I can't see any bubbles at the mouth and she doesn't seem to wheeze with every breath. Other than the wheezing and being off food for slightly longer than I have expeienced she seems in perfect health.
Thanks

There can be a sort of strange noise associated with shedding when their noses get irritated - is she due a shed soon I take it?
Baths might help her along the process, but I wouldnt panic about the noise if she is due to slough soon unless the problem is still present afterwards! |

Retained shed in the nostrils or early RI will cause them to "weeze"... keep the temps up for a few weeks. If there is no mucus, you may have caught it early & elevating the temps will nip it before it's a issue. Just watch carefully for elevated head when at rest & open mouthed breathing- if you see that (signs of it worsening), a trip to the Vet ASAP is in order.
