Anybody know where to get a meerkat from? was talking to a lady in a pet shop last year who said she had a small group. she gave me her phone number, as she sometimes had babies for sale, although i can't find it now. anyone know if its possible to keep a single animal? what about captive care?

There is a chap in the next town to me who keeps one, and carries it everywhere with him. It seems happy enough but is very vocal which doesn`t seem quite right.

I know nothing about their care but as they are so gregarious , I wouldhave thought it much better to keep them in a group. I will ask him for you next time I see him if you like, where he got it.

In their wild troops they will be constantly chirping to each to let one another know where they are/all is well.

they have a highly social life and interact massively with each other. also in the wild they take turns to go on lookout duty, so maybe they would feel safer if there were two of them?
