my 7mth old argus monitor will no longer eat crickets or locust. i was feeding extra large blacks & silent XL & XL locust.usually feed rodents one day & insects for next couple of days. then maybe a chick or another rodent. if i saw any insects in the enclosure that night, i would miss out a feed the next day.usually he would eat the insects next day. never leaves rodents or chicks. is this usual behaviour? also i was told by a well known & respected reptile keeper (won't name name's) that it was bad to feed rodents too often, read & hear so many different views hard to know what to believe. any input much appreciated.
ps. argus seems healthy & is growing fine. |

Wow argus normally eat most things offered, they seem to eat and eat but they have quite a fast metabolic rate. I do not think it is too much to worry about. I have kept ackies and glauerti in the past that also did not eat black crickets maybe its something to do with the movement of the blacks that does not seem to attract a feeding response. Blacks tend to run rather than jump like locusts. |

thanks sean. it used to eat crix blacks & brown silents,it's just started with last couple of feeds. do you think i could be feeding too much? over a 7 day period i feed a couple of rodents one day (hopper mice or rat fluffs) then next day 20-30 XL crickets & so on.
thanks. |

I wouldn't say your feeding regime is excessive 2 small mice a week and some crickets is ok. |
