Hi,
Been a while since I posted but thought I would update you on Dave the bosc who arrived last March.
Ok, it's not ideal but I am very limited to space, was going to build a viv with 6x3ft floor area, but that is impossible, so have to settle for 6x2, he will get plenty of "free roam" time so I think he should be ok.
This viv was Murphina the iggy's, sadly she was PTS two weeks ago with serious tumour and infections, which could not be cured.
So far I have raised the kick board at front to 14", so I can get a good depth of sub. The whole of the bottom and sides will be varnished to seal against damp from sub, 4 or 5 coats of yacht varnish.
Things to do yet.....make a frame so a removable board can be put across to provide a tunnel, approx 2ft x 2ft, height of tunnel about 10 inches. this will be on the left of pic with slab on top of board to create basking spot. The right hand side will accommodate the swimming pool, hoping to use a baby bath if poss, depends on how big they are.
I did ask before about substrate but as yet undecided, whether to go for "bagged" top soil and playsand mix from Homebase etc or dried bark chips with nothing added from same source.
Any further suggestions would be most welcome, from you experienced guys.
Below are pix of viv and latest of Dave, Ok DONT shout at me I know he's over weight now and is on a diet of bowl of crix everyday and either turkey or rat pups 2x a week. Very Happy
He's grown about 4 inches, now 27" since he got here, no idea of weight though, he is getting tamer, I can now stroke him and touch his back etc without him doing a runner, still got keen on being picked up as yet but getting there.

My bad, should have added that I will be using a 3ft Repti-glo 10% tube, I have been told they are better than the 8%, the reasoning being the lower one has to be changed every 6 months @£23 where as the 10% will last 12 months @£32, if thats the case then has to be the 10% version.
Any comments on this ?

tidge3000,
Originally it cost me about £200 but that included the powersun and fittings + a tubular heater at bottom with thermostat. The glass alone cost cost £109, its toughened and about 31 inches square, glass is expensive round here Sad

Stuart,
The Viv was originally use by an iguana, Murphina who was PTS not so long back ( 3 weeks), hence the height. 4ft.
By the time I've got 12 inches of sub. in there and climbing/basking rocks, reckon height will be 2½ to 3ft.
I would have liked it better if the depth could have been 3ft but the size of the rooms here dictate no more than 2ft sadly.
As said he will have "free roam" time so should be OK I think.

you can always add a big hefty log for him to bask on
that way you can make use of the hight.
i'm not sure 12 inch of sub is a good idea m8
you could end up with a load of dirt piling up against the front glass.
why don't you instead put a cover with a hole in it 12 inches of the floor and add another small glass opening with runners and stuff below that.
that way he has a burrow to retreart to but u can still see him and access it if needed.
i had this idea for a tegu viv once. sadly he charged my daughter so i sold him on. thank god he was in the viv then or it may have ended in tears.

here is a drawing i made about it all
