First of all you need to go back to the pet shop and find out exactly what the gecko is, preferably with a latin name which they should be able to give you. This will help a bit as common names can be missed leading. It sounds as though you either have a leopard gecko or an african fat tailed gecko, both of which are partial desert species and have not been crossed to my knowledge.

No fruit should be offered to either species, the care sheets that you have been reading for geckos were probably aimed at other types, most probably day geckos (Phelsuma spp.).

There could be a number of reasons as to why your gecko isn't eating, the main reason for such a new gecko would be stress. Make sure you have correct temps in the vivarium, with a suitable hot and cold end that would allow it to thermoregulate, also seen as its new put a lot of hides in there. It won't like to come out much in its first couple of weeks as it acclimatises but don't worry about this. If you post some pictures of the gecko and the set up you've got for it we could do our best to try and see whats wrong and see what kind of gecko it is? Smile
