I'm not so keen on the boiga, i just don't see the fascination that so many do - i think i know more people that are obsessed with these than any other species
The tree snakes however, i really like those - especially the girl. The blue is nice but i prefer the golden colouration. I presume they are mainly arboreal? Do they need any special requirements? _________________ TFA

Personally, I can take or leave the Boiga, but the Katherine form are stunning. The adults are a striking red & white colouration, giving them the nickname "Candycanes". Our little lad is an absolute joy, great handler.
The green punctulata are a beautiful animal. I'd sell half my collection though for a TRUE blue phase. They are a black or midnight blue, with electric blue flecks, but yes, the gold punctulata are incredible. They are predominantly arboreal, but if a hidebox is available they will spend a lot of time in it, as they are quite shy. They have no real special needs other height and some branches, although if you are unsuccessful in getting them over to pinkies, keeping a supply of feeder fish on hand is a must.
Unfortunately, Australia is under-represented in the colubridae, as we only have 9 species, which are pretty much divided between arboreal & aquatic. I'd like to set up a breeding program for all of them, but in my state we are only allowed to keep 4 or 5, so I'll have to make do with those! Next on the list are d.calligatras, followed by the keelbacks. _________________ www.theherphouse.com & http://alleycatz.curvedspaces.com -our homes away from home! |

I don't suppose you have any photo's of an adult of the boiga? I have to admit it does sound impresssive.
I thought that one was blue I have a growing passion for little weird and wonderful snakes, not sure where it has come from but it is rapidly becoming something similar to a crack habit It is a shame (from my perspective) that it is so hard to get Australian species, and then if you do manage it they have to be kept away from prying eyes (which to me defeats the object of having them, i am proud of my collection). _________________ TFA

I like the tree snake, lovely colours.
Only 9 colubrides species? Seem's strange really but you Ozzies have enough other rare herps to make up for it I suppose lol |
