Hi everyone.....When i take my python out of the viv to handle he's usually on the cooler side of the viv but seems very cool to the touch. Is this OK or should he feel warm all the time? |

You have now witnessed first hand one of the things that makes your snake so amazing!
Humans and other animals that regulate their internal body temps to keep them constant, expend about 80% or more of their energy just to regulate their temperature. Reptiles on the other hand, use external heat & cool to regulate their body temps, most times they will feel cool to the touch, as the "hot spot" for Regius is ideally around 90-92F & humans internal temp is warmer.
The ability for your snake to use external sources for heat is one of the main reasons he is so efficient. Because he burns less calories he only requires you to feed him every 5-7 days in his first year or two & 7-10 days as an adult. He may even go off feed for the winter. Hope this helps answer your query. -Deb _________________ All the Best- Deb

The reason your snake feels cool is that your body is running at 37C a snakes temp range is usually 26C-32C so although warm by most standards, still cooler to touch than yourself... Hope this helps
