at the moment i have a wooden viv but im keen to sell this and get a mesh screen viv (as seen on the reccommended products page). firstly i need to know what size will be suitable for 2 crested's?
and also how do i go about heating and lighting one of these?

im willing to learn guys and girls so please throw all your knowledge at me!

Hi James,

Cresteds require cooler temps than most lizards so you can almost keep them at room temp year round (obviously depending on your house temp).

A temp of around 76f is great, day temps up to 86f are OK and night time lows down to 68 - 70f won't do any harm in the winter either.

If you did need to add a little heat, then a small heat pad can be added to the back wall on the out side of the viv, this will just allow a small amount of basking heat to come thru. If not you could set up a small low wattage spot lamp, covering a quarter of the viv max (add some branches under it for basking on).

Viv size, you could use a 2ft x 2ft x 2ft or if you had the space go for the 3ft tall one.

ok im considering a terry thatcher repcage but im worried about humidity, how well do they keep humidity?
im thinking that i can put a thin sheet of foam on the back wth a low power heat mat behind it, covering one side that should keep in some humidity.

To be honest I don't think humidity is that big an issue if you set the viv up ok.

I use 100% mesh cages and have NEVER sprayed them. I do keep a high humidity box in each cage. I have never had a problem with shedding etc.
I am NOT recommending you don't spray them, just pointing out that the correct set up can eliminate many potential problems.


To reduce potential problems & make your job easier, add live plants & sprayed them daily.

I use Terry Thatcher mesh cages and i recomend them mate. I have a 2'x2'x3' one with a 1.3(4) group of Aurics in and i spray them every other day, i also have two humidity/laying boxes in there that they frequently use.
