Sorry if you've all been asked this before but I am a complete novice in the photography area!

Basically after looking at some of the pics on here I want to start taking my own. I have a SonyCybershot which is OK but I think I want to get a digital SLR.

I have heard good things about the Nikon D50 and it seems a good place to start but are there better cameras out there for a similar price?

Also what else would I need to get to go with it.

My budget is about £500 so it needs to be relatively cheap!

Thanks for any help!

nikon d50 or d70s are great cameras but so too are the canon 300d and the 350D..all within your price range.Depends what photography your going to be doing as to which lens to get first..

I wouldnt want to start with a 300d or a d50 if it were me but then I do like to have the whistles and bells Wink

I would look at somthing like a nikkon d70 or a canon 350d and tie it up with a decent do it all sigma somthing like a 18-200 or 28-300 with both of these you will end up with a very good starting point and once you can use them well you will have more of an idea about any specific lenses you might then want to add

exactly.. Wink if your on a budget then the d50 or 300d are both bargains and could leave enough change to get nice lens..Personally if on a budget I would choose the d50 as its optics are on par with the d70s by all accounts..at the end of the day though in this price range not much seperates the cameras mentioned..alot of it is what lenses you use.. Cool

exactly what the 20d was like silly money more you couldnt find one for under about £1000 for a UK one at the time now you can get yourself a 350d body for like £400 and it has a lot more features for the extra £50 over the d50 or the 300d
