I've been waiting for someone to post up some sand lizard pics. We have a large area behind the house that has most, if not all the native reptiles living in (inc a large adder population). I wanted to see these pics because the common lizards up here all show that green colour you see in sand lizards and i wanted to make sure what i had seen were commons and not sand lizards.
None of the common populations i have found elsewhere show this intense green as the ones here, very weird. _________________ TFA

Hi Dan, thats interesting. Funny that as I too have found greenish male commons in the past. There nearly always tends to be a higher percentage of green animals amongst commons at coastal locations I have found. Having said that, it doesn`t sound like you are too near the sea. The closest sand lizards to you are in the coastal dunes at Southport in Lancashire _________________ YSBRYDOLI POBL, GWELLA LLEOEDD

The nearest sand lizards to me are a lot closer than that I was just curious if the "commons" we have here are juvenile sand lizards (hence the size difference) but i guess not. It's not a greensih colour we have, its bright green and in both sexes. I'll get a pic tomorrow to show you _________________ TFA

Forgot to say, part of the common is a military range network so there are plenty of large sand banks which have been utilised by the sand lizards _________________ TFA

Great pictures Pete, sounds like you had a good day. Should really get down to Anglesey when I get back up to Wales and see the local populations there! _________________ Regards James Stroud |
