I'm an experienced keeper of many small to medium reptiles over many years. But would like in the future to have a monitor what does everyone suggest? bosc? tegu? water? etc........
Viv size not a problem i can easily build something 8Lx4Dx6H also living in Scotland means lack of decent reptile shops so who knows of good CB breeders _________________ 2.3.4 bearded dragons

A bosc would probably be best, as they are generallly easier to tame, but tagus can also. Water monitors can be vicious............
I haven't 'kept them' for myself - but handled them.
I'll let a real monitor keeper reply _________________

I'm no expert so just posting this on my first hand experience..I have kept several boscs, mangrove and a water monitor..I found the mangrove to be the most skittish of the lot.The water monitor was only young but seemed to be calming down each time it was handled..and as for the boscs all the ones I had were quite aggressive.I then decided to go for a tegu and set about getting an argentine black and white which I had heard tame very well..must say not disappointed!.Its the tamest lizard I have owned..great characters and look much nicer than boscs in my opinion..I'm sure that there are some very aggressive argentines too but found mine was a pleasure to work with..they also seem to calm considerably with age.. _________________

There you go, conflicting advice!
Shows how much it depends upon the actual animal.

Decide on what you like, check you have space and then go for it
You can up with tame or aggressive animals for almost all the bigger monitors, it's luck and hard work.
I have seen many very tame adult bosc monitors but not many tame large water monitors....in fact I did have a water monitor when I was much younger....It broke out it's cage....ATE MY HAMSTER and then run up the wall, thru a hole and into the chimney....we had to take most of the wall down to get him out , my family wasn't impressed _________________
