If they are suitable for dendrobatids, I could well be interested in some in the future Andrew.
Are they easy enough to culture?

If you have space, the 'wasps' need a large flying area and very good sunlight. I had plenty of wasps but didn't manage to set up a large enough breeding 'pen' for them before they died Sad

Thanks Scott, Cool

What do you consider a large enough flying space?

An aerodrome should suffice Pete! Laughing

Culturing is not possible. They have now altered the harvesting process to eliminate (or at least greatly reduce) the number of worms that turn into flies.

Sorry, I've not had much time today but will try and get some nutritional info up asap.

Crying or Very sad got to say that is kind of disappointing half the fun is cultivating your own feeders, guess it makes financial sense though
its kind of like how these big fruit and veg harvesters are modifying their produce so it doesn't produce seeds guess these are the first GM live foods Wink

Not exactly, it's no different to how some other livefoods are harvested to avoid pupation.

Initially the Phoenix Worms were allowed to turn into flies and it was thought to be a good thing - however after only a few weeks the producers started to get complaints that retailers were opening cups in their shops or at shows and having flies emerge from the cups. Also a number of hobbyists complained after having had Phoenix Worms disappear in their vivs and emerge as flies so they altered the harvesting process to avoid these problems.

It does make sense when you consider the majority of hobbyists don't want to be bothered with culturing their own livefoods.
