Since I have had the mells I have never seen them extend their tongues for a feed, they just sidle up slowly to the prey and snaffle it up by just extending their tongues a tiny bit out from their mouths.
They both do this, they both appear healthy, I know they are meant to have huge tongues.
The only thing I can think of is that they don't need to hunt in that manner due to a plentiful supply of food?
If anyone has any ideas please let me know thanks. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

test your theory, try feeding from a dish located 10" from the viv, obviously so they can reach it without falling out (if that's possible with yours set-up). _________________

Good thinking, will try that tomorrow, they have had hand feed locusts today, spoilt or what!
They do eat in a very casual manner, in fact they do everything in a very casual manner _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

I hope so, they are sedate creatures, but they do appear healthy and have been mating. I will try Scotts Idea to tempt them into some tongue flicking. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Well Scott I tried your idea they just looked at me as though I was mad.
One of them did flick its tongue at a locust on the viv roof, but still move dinto very close range first and was only a couple of inches flick.
I shall persevere and try to encourage them to flick some more. Waxies are next on the temptation list.
The female seems to be drinking quite a lot, I do hope they are both well. _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
