Just thought I would post this to see what other members do to get their baby snakes feeding? In the last couple of years I have taken on several snakes that are only a few days old and not sloughed or fed..I have managed to get them all feeding one way or another without resorting to live.Be nice to have some posts stating how you all get your babies started. |

We use hot pinkies/fuzzies. It works well for us in getting baby Jungle carpet pythons feeding. All we do is dunk a fuzzy in just off the boil water. Be careful when doing this with pinks though as the water can melt the skin and you end up with a messy gloop - one quick dunk should be enough to heat up the pink. _________________ Best wishes, Jackie

I guess my method is similar to yours Jackie, but I heat mine up in the incubator or on a heat pad.
If they don't feed after 3 weeks or so, I normally assist feed mouse tails, after a few of them they often start feeding on their own. |

I have had trouble with one of my bredls recently..she took a defrost off the floor of the tub no probs then refused for weeks!!Have tried heating the prey up in hot water etc and using a hairdryer to warm it through but she is very timid and hard to get a reaction from her.Brained a fluff last week to no avail and so resigned myself to a long session of anoying her..lol..well it worked after 5-10 mins she eventually struck constricted and took..went through same scenario last night but was still hard work so tried blowing in her face as I was offering(advice from experienced keeper before anyone laughs)lol..and within a few mins she took again.also found touching the side of the neck rather than face on evokes a response...lots of trial and error but nice to hear other peoples methods.. |

We can't take credit for our method - Bob Simpson told us. If you keep the fuzzy sogging so it drips on the snake's nose they can taste lunch... _________________ Best wishes, Jackie
