i wanted to let you all know that i no longer have Cedric but instead i now have Celine(as in Deonne) the bloke in the pets store said she is already eating well and that Cedric was obviously not ready to be sold yet as he hadn't seen him eat because he only got them both 1/2 hour before he sold me him but Celine is happy in her new home and has already eaten 3 crickets in about an hour she seems to love the set-up with the ample amounts of branches and the basking lamp the temp is now at 80f and the humidity is far higher i know this because the front of the tank has got steam on the front of it i haven't turned the tank upright just yet and I'm getting some bark for the bottom of the tank instead of the sand (again I'd like to say I'm sorry for being so snappy yesterday i was just really worried) _________________ my imaginary freind says your crazy |

Out of curiosity, what setup did the petshop have for the chams?
Hope Celine does well.

the pet shop has a small set up it's not very tall with a blue light bulb instead of a normal white light bulb the temp was at 28oC and on the circular thermometer sticker things I'd say that it was too small for even a baby chameleon it's about a foot cubed approx

the pet shop is animal magic and its in Grantham in lincolnshire!!!
(by the way Celine is doing great I've just seen her eating another cricket obtw what is the best supplementation for dusting the crickets so i know that I'm not going to make her ill) _________________ my imaginary freind says your crazy |

I've only just got round to reading this thread and I have to say I feel the shop who sold you the chameleon (both of them) is acting very irresponsibly. This is no slight on you. But to sell an animal 30 minutes after it has been in the shop is unforgiveable in my opinion. What happened to quarantine? Feeding and shedding monitoring? I can feel my blood pressure rising as I type. I'm usually quite a placid non-confrontational member of the forum but this has really angered me.
The set-up they (the pet shop) originally suggested to you appears suitable for a Leopard gecko (minus the uv of course) but for a Yemen chameleon???? Here is a photo of my set-up for my adult Panther Chameleon. I'm not suggesting this a suitable set-up for your chameleon (as it is a different species and also a baby) but it will give you an idea of how to set it up more appropriately.

You know what people, there but for the grave of God go I!!! (no I'm not religious), didn't I only just restrain myself from buying my 1st Yemen and setup in a petshop in January. Something stopped me (old age probs! ). I decided to go on the internet and research the subject and I'm so glad I did. I've taken my time and now have (hopefully) got the ideal setup and a great healthy little chameleon. Thanx to Rick who not only picked him up and kept him for me but gave me invaluable advice. If I'd bought the one at a petshop in January on a whim I have no doubt it would be dead by now! So Butch Link, hopefuly your cham is doing all right now, at least you came to the right place for help!!! This forum is great! Good luck and keep us posted! |
