The one reservoir also means that you can add soluble vits etc to the water for each and every cage in one go.
Also, if the smell gets a bit beyond what you can stand, just add vanilla essence to the water, it takes the edge off the ammonia smell. |

any idea of an approx cost per cage (I guess I would only need one drip even in the large 'double' bottle cages) _________________

Scott, I'll PM you with a list of suppliers if that will help.
Essentially you will need :
one valve per cage
enough black tubing to run from your header tank around all the cages
a bleeder valve to empty the system
several stop taps to isolate part of the system in case you have any leaks (mole grips are good for compressing the black tubing while you repair a leak if you cannot shut off the water)
a header tank (an ordinary tool box will do as this also has a handle making carrying it easier - the low profile also takes up less room)
a shut off valve from the header tank to allow refilling
enough T and corner connectors to make your circuits of the cages
coaxial grips to hold the tubing to whatever frame you use to support your tubs |

ooh, and a pair of scissors to cut the tubing.
It looks a lot, but it doesn't cost the earth. The T connectors you can get in B & Q, same with the coaxial clips. |

I bought mine years ago when Edstrom sisn't have a rep in the UK. Even with import tax on my second order it was cheaper than the normal alternative.
If you look at this link you can find all the info you need on cost and setting the system up. OK, it is in the States, but the info is still usefull and gives an idea of price.

Does it not run off the mains? If not how many nozzles would the header tank handle?
I've 500+ cages running. _________________

It can run off the mains. Think I mentioned in an earlier post about fitting a float valve so that it shuts off automatically when the tank refills, and a non return valve to keep the water separate from your own drinking water.
Then it is just a case of running enough blue pipe down to the building and fitting a pressure valve to make sure you don't blow the poor mouse up the first time it tries to take a drink !!!
Just make sure you bury the pipe deep enough that it does not freeze in Winter or for that matter ...Summer !!! |

you could use a plastic cold water tank or header tank with ball value fitted. depending on height of tank will determin pessure of water, also size of tank |

Personally I would use several header tanks with that many cages/racks.
You could set up one or two racks/banks of racks at a time, which would be less work than trying to do them all in one hit. Also makes the line cleaning more manageable.
This would also give you a really good bench mark against the racks still using bottles!
Cheers
