OK, after being badgered by certain forum members to post up photos of my new 'project' here's one This particular photo belongs to the original breeder but as I didn't want to stress mine I thought I'd use it, especially as mine are the same...lol.

How on earth was one of them bred?
Over what period of time did it take to develop this strain, how many succesive batches until the final piebald was obtained? _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Not line bred or selectively bred yet, just hatched by chance. The first young (less than 5) were then reared up and bred and found to be co-dom which resulted in more babies. Clutch sizes seem to be small so far, not sure if that was because of small females or weak genetics.
Would be nice if they could be selectively bred to produce PURE WHITE yemens.......very nice
Only a small amount were on offer, most of which went to Japan, a few to the States and a few stayed in Europe (hardly any), I believe mine are the only ones to be bought back to the UK. _________________

Pardon my ignorance but what does co-dom mean please?
Typical that everything goes to Japan or the States!
A white strain would be quite bizarre! _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Co-dom means Co-dominant, Breed a white animal to a normal animal and you will get some white and some normals, as oppossed to albinos which are recessive, bred an albino to a normal and you get ALL normal that carry the genes to produces albinos. _________________

So say for example such a yemen was born in the wild as a piebald, would it's survival chances be the same as any other yemen, or would it have less chance of survival due to predation from it's own species as it is different? _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

I doubt that it's own species would 'pick' on it but obviously the white colour may hinder camoflauge and add to the risks of predation.
Saying that, I believe Taben has a wild caught PieBald Royal that was adult when found, so I guess some animals can survive to breeding size with the piebald trait. _________________

Interesting, so do you think they will catch on and that there will be a demand for them? _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk
