I saw someone doing this quite a while ago with a croc in a zoo, but i think it would work with a gecko?!

This guy rang a bell every time he fed this croc(which was always hiding) and eventually the croc put two and two together and associated the bell ringing with the food, so when there was a crowd wanting to see the croc he would ring the bell and the croc came out for hiding!
It was a pretty neat trick, and it would probably also be helpful with a nocturnal gecko like a crested. Laughing

Im sure if you stick to it every time you feed him it will work, I feed my ackies from a tub that i use for adding vit powders and when they hear the crickets spinning in the tub the ackies all come up to the door of the viv because they know whats coming in.Same with my Rankins, if i hold those green tubs you get the waxworms in up to the glass the biggest female will come running over, because she knows whats in the tubs, her favourite.
Also use to tap on the side of the pond when i fed my koi when they was young to get them on the suface feeding out my hand.
So give it a go. Smile

same PRINCIPLE AS pavlov's dogs experiment.

Apparently it's all about CR conditioned response to CS controlled stimuli.

With the dogs each time before he fed them he would ring a bell.

After a while they associated the bell ringing with food.

Then, each time he rang the bell the dogs began to salivate as they associated the bell ringing with food.

In the end he used to ring the bell did not feed them when he rang the bell but they still salivated.

So the controlled stimuli was the bell ringing the eventual conditioned response was salivation.

CR and CS is still used today in modified forms and more highly developed psychological forms to treat for example, phobias, used in hypnotherapy, OCD treatment etc.

Just a bit of probably useless information there, but yes you can train all manner of animals using CS and CR.

Very Happy
