When I first got my yemens I was under the impression that I should feed them whatever they will take till full each day..

the little sods will eat an entire box of adult crickets in one sitting these days and get proper mardy if I dont feed them lots.

I have been cutting it down to every other day, about 5 crickets each at the moment to see how they do.

Anyone have a rough estimate of what is ideal amounts of food?

they do get wax moth grubs as treats every day if they behave, they now both come out onto my arm to get them and one even sleeps on me when I am watching tv on a night which is cute! bribery does work

I wouldn't like to say...but maybe an adult should have 4-5 large crickets every few days, so sounds like you're doing fine. I know what you mean about the waxies though...I believe it is called cupboard love Very Happy

Overfeeding them can lead to prolapses and constipation as well as large clutches for the females. Overfed females also seem to have more problems laying the eggs.

I prefer to grow my veileds fairly slowly...I think it helps to extend their lives and lessen reproductive problems...and I think it helps prevent MBD too. Just my own thoughts on it.

When first hatched, I feed them as many crickets as they can eat in about two minutes. The closer they get to maturity the less I feed them until I get down to 10 or 15 crickets every two or three days for males and 8 to 12 every two or three days for females that are NOT producing eggs.
