hi guys and gals
John bought me a common boa on Saturday, tried feeding him last night and isn't interested. Any tips on this would be grateful, its about a month old.

Couple ideas that may help:

Some baby boas can take a while to get going so try different things. First off, make sure he has a hide box and is warm enough. Don't handle him much either until he has started to feed. You want him to feel secure.

At a month old he should take either mouse hoppers or rat fuzzies, try both and see what he prefers. I find it easier to get boas started on mice and stick them to rats at around 6 - 8mths old.
You can warm up the food in warm water as well so its not too cold. If he doesn't feed you might be disturbing him too much, so once he grabs the food, keep still until he has swallowed it.
Once boas start feeding, they are normally easy pets to keep.

cheers, John

It may be benefical to explain your setup to us too along with your temperatures and humidty levels etc and what type of equipment you use to measure temps, heat the enclosure etc.

Sometimes husbandry can have a bit to do with temperamental feeding.

they only got the wee thing on saturday. assuming temps etc are right, i think it may just be settling. dont handle until it takes first feed. just leave it to settle in and get used to its surroundings. if it still hasnt eaten in a couple of weeks then look at other things.

thank you very much for the information it is really appreciated. We are following all your advice of leaving him to get used to hi surroundings and then feed later. If this works great if not I will post again.
Many thanks all.

hi all
just to keep you informed the Boa has eaten we left him alone for a for a few days, then thawed the mouse but dunked it in hot water and he smelt it then attacked. Am well chuffed now. Thanks for all your advice.
