has anyone ever known any of these to melt from bulb use?

i had to force myself to go to the dirty naff petshop in town because the decent places had sold out of the bulb i wanted and in this shop they told me that they didn't sell the top canopy things because so many people brought them back after they had melted.

personally i just think its bad advice from the shop, the canopy states what bulbs and wattage to use and not to so i'll probably ignore this..

cheers

Neil.

I have one of the small canopies which I use with a 10.00 compact bulb (not much heat).

I have found it excellent and absolutely love the light level it provides, kinda warm but bright, rather than clean white light which looks too sterile.

I think it would bear up to around 70 c maybe even higher from the feel of it, but without testing heat bulbs in them I really cant say.

certainly a ceramic pointed at it would make a mess I am sure.

this one of the large hoods or small?

hi there,

i'd bought the 18 inch one, for 2 screw in bulbs. after a couple of mods, i'm really satisfied with it

i was slighly dissapointed when i bought it as it only had one wall plug to control both bulbs so i got at it with my screwdrivers and now each bulb holder is wired to a different plug.. now i can have one thermostaticly controlled and the other on a 24hour timer.

i don't think that these canopies will give anyone any trouble but you know what its like, ... a couple of negative comments makes one think.

like i said above, the petshop that i didn't have much choice to go in is well known for terrible quality animals and fish and crappy advice...

for a start they have an adult horsefield tortoise in a tiny tank with no uv, just a red bulb and all that is in the tank on for decor is that green faux grass stuff that you find on a fruit and veg stall. terrible.
judging they keep their animals poorly like this, .. i knew they were talking out of their bottoms.

i reccomend one of these canopies to people who want to make their lighting look really neat and professional.

thanks

Neil.
