Very true Scott, but I never seen any evidence that any one breeder produces better looking pastels, Mojaves, lessers and so on than any other breeder.Mostly your young will be mixed, some ok, some good, some great.Anyone claiming to have better quality than others are just using quality as a sales pitch, I would go as far to say there is no UK breeder that produces higher quality than any other breeder.

I couldn't really comment on that Pete as I have not had the chance to see everyone elses collections and offspring but I am 100% sure some lines of pastel are better than others...yes for sure any good breeder will try to bring the colour out by mating to certain females but starting with the brightest pastels available will certainly make that job easier.

I agree that not any one breeder will have the best of every morph, that is highly unlikely anywhere in the world but I'd prefer to buy from one that has been more selective in his/her starting stock.

I guess I have been extremely lucky in the fact that Mark Mandic has been very selective in what he has sent over to the UK for me, not one of the animals disapointed me, as for my own breedings, well perhaps I haven't hatched enough to see such a variation in quality, maybe this year will be different but yes I do agree that overall any breedings from even the best coloured adults can throw out the odd disapointing coloured offspring although again I'm sure that will be a lower % than by just breeding random bought morphs.

I think it's agreat shame that you have lost the passion/excitement with regards to the morphs, I was suprised when I saw you selling your stripe, knowing what great combos you could of produced.

I just couldn't get it out of my head that by the time I produce any combos they will be readily available to all, imported or otherwise.
I may as well sell the striped and in the years it would of taken me to produce these future compos I may as well buy them then.
My passion / excitement has always been about producing something different or new.

Yep, that is quite possibly true but that won't stop me trying for striped Enchis and striped lessers or Enchi Clowns. I don't care who beats me to it, I'll just be chuffed that I have produced them, like you say about producing something new...they will be new to me Laughing

I sometimes ask the question, If I knew then, what I know now about the morphs and prices etc...would I of still spent the money I did? without doubt the answer is yes, I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment, the excitement of getting that new morph, growing it and planning what to breed it to. Do I think now's a good time to get into morph royals? Yes without doubt it's a far far better time than when I did, my money would of gone way further now Laughing but I'm sure I would still of ended up spending a similar amount but obviously would of saved myself 4 years + of breeding my own double morphs and instead I could of had the fun of starting my first breedings aiming for treble gene morphs Cool Laughing

i do honestly believe that although you may not be the first to produce a cetain combo this doesnt detract fom producing one in your own reptile room by a single %,breeding your own stock beats buying a new stud animal in 10 times out of 10 in my book Very Happy .ive also spent a lump of money on royals and as scott rightly says if the same ammount of money was spent now it would defo go alot further but if i manage to install a flux capacitor on my old volvo id still go back and spend it again cos i genuinly enjoy my royals and have to say they are the best snakes ive ever kept and are simply a pleasure to work with Wink long live the royal craze
