Right, so its more of a "means to an end" type thing then. I can see the point of keeping those to breed black eyed leucys because they're stunning (my first royal project is going to be the blue eyed version) but I don't really see the value of that in its own right if I'm honest; it looks to similar to a normal for my liking. I'd equate it to a het albino or a het pied in that their main value is in what they can produce rather than what they are themselves. |
No no no, they have amazing potential when bred with other morphs.
It makes ANYTHING it touches LIGHTER.
So if you breed it to a pastel fro example it will get better and better as it ages
it wont dull down like they normally tend to.
By no means is the fire an end product, it is like any other morph that will produce
a blue eyed lucy, it really becomes special when it is bred to other morphs IMO. _________________ Regards, Paul.

Yes, thats what I meant. The real value of a fire lies in its breeding potential rather than, say, a pied, which is kept as a display animal in its own right. |

Sorry I thought you just ment its only value is the black eyed lucy.
But IMO they are much more than that because what can you do with a blackEL ?
except from the fact that bred to a normal they are all fires the actually lucy
cant reallybe changed if pattern doesnt show through ? _________________ Regards, Paul.

So you could see a fire as "a means to an end" type morph whereas a blackEL is more like the "end product" morph; the main asset of the fire being the genetics it carries to produce other (perhaps better looking) morphs whereas the blackEL is the end result, the display animal in its own right?
If that's correct then I can see how a fire would be a real asset to a royal collection even if (IMO) it doesn't look all that spectacular in itself....a bit like a het albino or a het pied in that sense. |

Indeed, I dont see anything more happening with a BlackEL but the potential
to use it with regard to the genetics of it is unbeleivable.
I think fires have a lot more to give than what has already been shown much
like YB.
I have never kept a fire or any other royal morphs but this is my view on
it, by no means is it right but just my opinion _________________ Regards, Paul.

I don't think a Fire is at all comparable to a het Albino or het Pied in terms of looks.
Granted as an individual in a photograph they do themselves little credit, however if you were to see one in the scales next to a normal then I guarantee you would appreciate just how good looking the Fire morph is!
I too, was very scepticle at first, until I saw a comparison shot, then I wanted one _________________ A lil bit of Madagascar
