normally, and am going by my daughters now, there is a race to see which one gets higher up than the other. this is to do with being boss too.

you've had this problem before Lynne, treating your daughters like reptiles. What do they climb on?

Being serious, he dosnt bob at us, only the female. They cant see each other in their vivs, only when we let them out for a play. think we will keep them apart for a bit until she is bigger, better safe than sorry

i do keep doing that dont i??? Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
aye i wouldnt let them see each other for a wee while.

As with almost all reptiles it's size and weight, not really age. I had most of my beardeds breeding at around 6-7 months of age. I can't remember the exact weights of the females but 240grams seems to ring a bell (I'd need to find my records to back that weight up though).

These dragons weren't forced into breeding but were group reared and fed ad hoc. No females died egg bound, all clutches were between 18-23 eggs and hatches rates were almost 100%.

I have had other females that did not get to breeding size anywhere near as quick and were still too small for breeding at 15months BUT again they were housed with males but DID NOT breed because they weren't ready (and they knew it).

did they not get harrassed from the male beardies. not that i know much about beardies, just what i pick up from watching my daughters bearded dragons. hers are both female, but i have heard people say they had to separate males and females because of harrassment!!

Nope not especially, the cage was set up with good visual barriers that didn't allow any one lizard to see the entire cage (unless up on a high branch). This probably helped break up any territory stresses etc.

Perhaps also keeping 4 or 5 females per caged helped too as the males attentions would of been spread.

The ONLY problems I ever had with beardeds is if they were hungry, then bites of cage mates would occur (keeping greens in the viv at all times would almost eliminate that).

Also out of interest I believe that most females that die or have complications from early breeding are normally those that people didn't know were even gravid and therefore the nest box wasn't in the cage in adequate time and the females suffer from not being able to lay when they need.

My beardies bred at 10 months old and 18-20 inches, averaging 25-30 eggs with 100% hatch rate with 2 clutches in the first year and lots and lots of food
