Hi
My male CB07 black-head python has started to get one of his hemipenes stuck outside the vent opening. The hemipene doesn't appear to just pop out, it seems that it is getting everted during a bowel movement (nothing to unusual about that) but then isn't being retracted again. Whats left poking out is a small (about 3mm across) pink mushroom like piece of flesh.
I've re-inserted it myself once using a snake probe but it has just happened again following the latest defecation. Is this anything to seriously worry about or do some snakes just like to "let it all hang out" from time to time? With a normal prolapse I would be more concerned, but since the hemipene is designed to come out like that is it less of a worry?
I'm currently keeping the vent lubricated with KY in the hope that he'll retract it himself.
thanks for the comments.

Hi Stuart
I have only seen this happen before when male BHPs have been popped, Try spraying it with cold water and blowing on it. You should email Paul as he has far more experience with these. _________________
