Thanks guys.

I was talking to a local breeder buddy of mine. He was asking about future plans with the cinnabelly. Anyway, he has a Super Blast that we were talking about pairing up with her in a few season.

Kinda of led into a conversation about what do you label the genetics when you really aren't sure. Say you end up with the super pastel pin cinny yb. How do you know for sure the yb gene is there and what happens when you sell it thinking it is and proves out not be?

Man what a head ache. Some of the more subtle morphs can easily be harder to tell if they are really there or not until you breed them out to prove it.

Any thoughts?

I was having this discussion yesterday.

Perhaps the reason some breeders haven't released the genetics of certain morphs is because they don't know specifically.

Imagine breeding two snakes each with 4 codom traits, the combinations are almost endless Shocked

Really the only way to tell what it is would be to breed the traits out, but even then, you might not be sure.... Confused

Thats the beauty of Genetics Exclamation Its deff not quite as simple as Mendels Pea plants now is it Shocked If you sell it saying it has certain genes and it dont ....well you in trub !

Sell it for what it IS and not for what it COULD be , thats my thinking here

Hence reason why you can have 50% 66% 100% Hets . Homozygous ( gawd I love that word ! ) , Heterozygous ( its an ok word ! ). DH and TH pythons are becoming more widespread/available....NERD has a Quad Genetic python Cool

Say I was selling a morph that may or may not carry a specific trait I would be at pains to tell the buyer. I would also include details of the parantage..maybe even going back a few generations ( genes CAN pop up anytime folks Laughing ).

As for naming morphs hmmmmmmmm that can be a strange one indeed ...take Piebald ...actually not a true Pie ( the colour is wrong ) its more like a Skewbald...its all upto the breeder .

Sadly its never upto the snake Exclamation

It is going to become a problem for many of us in the near future. More and more breeders are mixing multi genetic combos every season. Triples to triples and then quads to triples or quads to quads.

Even if you fully disclose as much detail as humanly possible. There will be that on time that you sell something and it doesn't have the specific gene in it that the buyer wanted. Unfortunately it wont show up until he tries to breed out his projects years later.

It's not like selling fake hets, it's just going to get real hard real fast for anyone to be completely accurate on the genetics of the crosses.

Makes you dizzy thinking about it doest it? Very Happy

And this topic is only about codom's. Imagine mixing in some DH recessives into the equation.
