Got my Pachnoda larvae this morning, can't wait for them to transform into beetles:

I love the pachnoda beetles, will probably set up some cultures in the future.

How are you keeping them?

I did have some a while back in 3" of damp peat and fed them bananas but did hear that they needed UV, anyone else heard they need that? (don't sound right to me)

well at the moment they are still in the cricket tub full of soil they arrived in, I'll be moving them into a large geo tomorrow (I'll take some pics when done). I've not heard about them needing UV.
I've only really bought them to try and culture for livefood.

that was the reason I tried them last year, I found them too slow to build up the numbers, serveral months just to get beetles, I think once you have enough beetles then they are probably worth doing.

Hi,
I have kept fruit beetles for years, they don't need uv at all, why would they really, the larva feed inside dead wood and tha adults burrow away from strong light.
It takes about 7 months for the beetles to morph out from small grubs, but once they do it is an ongoing cycle, just emove leafmold substrate put a few bits of decaying sood in, feed the adult bannana/ citrus, and leave alone, spray if the top dries out a bit.
one of Simplest creatures to maintain, that I have ever kept.
Dean
