I'm building my own viv could any one give me info on where to put venting in viv, I've been told by a reptile supplier to put the one at the heated end near the floor of viv to draw in cool air and a vent at the top of viv at the cool end. This seems to make sense with convection currents etc, but looking at the Habistat site they recommend top vent at heated end! Also what type of heater? ceramic, infra red, Do bearded dragons need a spot lamp or just the heat? I will need to lift the temp from an ambient of about 16c any ideas on size of heater required for a 4x2x2ft viv? |

I have the vents at the top on the heated side and down low on the cool side, you can actually feel the hot air coming out with the convection.
A ceramic heater would be fine, I'd suggest 100 watt on a dimming stat. You want to aim for the heater being on for them to bask as much as possible, if you use a 150watt bulb it will be shutting on and off all the time giving the dragons nowhere to bask. Basking heat is more important that general heat. |
