Franz F.
Every time he sees me he comes to the viv door. I don't think he likes being in his viv. When he comes out he does not wander far, just picks a nice spot, settles down and watches what is going on around him.
So I have ordered a 4ft high, 3ft wide and 2ft deep viv for him to see if this helps, will place it where he can see more of what is going on.
If this does not work I shall have to seriously think about setting something up so he can free roam!
He is a smart feller and very curious and quite tame, seems a shame if he does not get the most out of life. Perhaps I am being to subjective and letting human emotions dictate the pace?
Any tips?
cheers Rick _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Maybe you could make a temp. set-up, with a few plants (obviously heating etc. too). Then leave him over night (with the door closed, and nowhere for him to get impaled, stuck, hide and close the door.
Use it as a trial run.
(ps. where is that viv from?)

i COULD DO THAT, AND A GOOD IDEA TO TRIAL RUN IT FIRST!
Thing is though I think he needs more stimulation and to be around people, see what's going on etc. Problem is this is not practical in my house too many dangers in such areas. The dog would eat him within five minutes of seeing him! I can't ban the dog from the public areas of the house as he has always been able to have access to them.
It's a brain tease! _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

I think the compromise may be to have the new viv in a more public area and make sure the dog does not worry Franz. See how that works.
My old parrot used to wind the dog up on purpose! _________________ www.rickslivefood.co.uk

Bugger, sorry mememememe you asked where the viv was coming from, Vivtronic, not the cheapest but quite a nice viv for a panther, under their chameleon standard viv range, not a flat pack thingy.
Shall just paint the back panel with masonry paint as standard white back panels will degrade over time with misting. The viv is just right for Panthers that need higher humidity and also the viv allows for quite good airflow. Would not be ideal for a Yemen that would require less humidity but higher airflow.
