hi im new to the forum and am wondering how i can tame my new iguana down. I had him on saturday hes 7 months old and 2 foot long but when i had him i picked him up asap chasing him around the viv which i no is wrong now. Hes been left now to get use to it on his own(vivarium) he is eating just a bit though as i keep noticing bits of food go missing but how long will it be till he trusts me.What shall i do to gain his trust to i put my hands in the tank to show him no threat when i change water and feed him but what else??and also i sit wacthing himwwith the viv door open but i very rarley see him move about to.Only yesterday i seen him move when he went to eat for first time will he every be tame or will he be afraid all his life your help please.thanxx only people who no what they are duin aswell please

Young iguanas can be very skittish and don't appreciate interaction at first..its just going to take time but the main thing is to do things slowly..a great book to get is the "The green iguana ultimate owners manual" its full of superb info and advice. I have the book myself and trust me its worth every penny..got mine from amazon.co.uk

thanks alot mate much appreciated i keep tortoises and i have even trained my tortoise to cum to me and alsorts lol but iguana makes ya a bit edgey when tail whip comes out will he calm down with age then should i try to pick him up or leave him a few weeks first??also how much is book was your iguana skittish at first 2?? did he calm down on his own

The one I had was very skittish to start and my advice would be let him settle for a couple of weeks and just let him get used to you doing the basics like feeding and cleaning etc..takes time but rewarding if they settle.
