Hi Tobias
He's a very nice spider She won't eat him, I'd be worried if she was a king cobra, but as she's a female royal he should be fine. If your worried just keep quietly checking on them. The males can loose weight during the breeding season, so just keep an eye on him and always offer him a meal in between sessions. The general rule of thumb is 3 days on 3 days off, but obviously if you notice a lock you can take him out sooner after they have finished. It might also be worth checking his vent every now and again and make sure it's not looking sore due to over use but as he will only be mating 1 female then it should be ok. Just remember that a lock doesn't mean anything and even 20 locks could mean nothing, you haven't actually succeeded until she's sitting on eggs, and even then they could be infertile, so you never count anything until they start hatching, but at this point you won't have lost anything by trying _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Very True that Rad
Blueroses, when did your female last shed? I was told the ideal time to put male and female together was straight after a shed, other will be able to confirm or deny this piece of information, and there is certainly not harm in putting them together now, unless one of them has gone into shed cycle, then I would hold off until the shed is over.
Good luck, hope you get a lock _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Her last shed was ages ago. Not recently. I know its true about post shedding being a good cue, as I have done this with my corns. Am I correct in thinking this is a first breeding attempt for you?
Thank you for you interest Claire _________________ 1.0 Crimson Corn(Harvey)

I think the answer to that is yes and no, this will be my first breeding attempt with the royals, but I have other royals that are breeding just not here with me. I have bred beardies and geckos before though. _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Quick update on this pair, I checked on them at 2am this morning and they had locked, and they are still locked now, I think I'd better get them a snack out for later on _________________ www.draco2.co.uk
