I'd blame the male if I was you Stuart, it's usually their fault You could always try making a hybrid? You could mate it with a key morph _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Hello all! I am quite new to this forum and have read with interest about your 'lock' Did I read that 'he' is around 600g ? Gosh that is still quite small. How old is he? I have a Spider male getting on to that size but he is only 8 months old and I didnt think he would be old enough to breed. How old is your female he is partnered with? Very interested _________________ 1.0 Crimson Corn(Harvey)

Welcome to the Forum Blueroses, in answer to your question my little male is 600g and 7 months old, my female is 1500g (minimum I think for breeding weight), and I'm not sure of her age as I bought her almost fully grown from someone else.
Males have been know to mate from a few months old and about 300-350g but this is the exception rather than the rule, an ideal weight for males to start breeding is at about 800g or more, but as this guy is a good feeder and my female hit weiught unexpectedly we thought we would give him a go. I female should ideally be mated after her 2nd winter and at 1500g or more.
For more info this is a good site www.ballpythons.ca _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Thank you very much. My little Spider is 566g well he was at the beginning of the month. He eats like I dont know what! Always keen and eager for his dinner. One of my females is 3 years old and 1600g. Didnt you find the female a little overpowering for the little fella? Lol. I am keen to try them but dont want her to hurt him with such a difference in size. I havent cooled them or any of my snakes. I just lower the temps at night a little but always have for corns and Royals. I wonder should I try?? _________________ 1.0 Crimson Corn(Harvey)

That would be one of the things that spiders are known for, eating like pigs I would give them a go personally. I introduced my 2 on Sunday afternoon/evening, and they were locked by Monday evening, just after the sun set in fact. They stayed like that for a couple of hours and then seperated, at which I took the male out and put him back in his own box and gave him his dinner, which he was most happy to receive. She however decided she didn't want dinner, which is unheard of for her, so she will get her next dinner next Monday night. She didn't overpower him at all, in fact it was him that was all over her, she did wrap her tail over his back a few times, but they were just cuddling. Males much smaller than Goshe have mated with Females much bigger than delta, without any risk at all. He will be going back in with her Tomorrow afternoon, and if they lock again tomorrow night, then he will be taken back out again as soon as they are finished, or he will stay in for 3 days, and lock or not he will be taken out again and have 3 days off. I will be monitoring his weight VERY closely however, and any dramatic decreas in his weight and he will be staying in his own box until next season and I may try another male.
I haven't cooled mine either, and in fact if I can get good results without cooling then that would be my preferred method of breeding due to the increase rish of RI with royals when they are cooled.

Claire you are being most informative and helpful. Maybe I should give it a go then. As long as she doesnt gobble him all up coz he wasnt cheap lol
You mentioned monitoring his weight. Is he likely to lose weight just from the mating process then?
I have bred corns before but am a total newbie with my Royals.
