http://www.anapsid.org/adenoviruses.html
More info there, as I said they would all have it by now if they were going to get it, in mammals one can have it whilst others in close contact are not affected. Although the info isnt specific to Cresties it will give you some extra insight into what caused her problem.
Another site............'The fluoroquinolones are the drugs of choice in human medicine for severe Salmonella infections and for the elimination of the carrier state. These drugs have not been evaluated in this respect in veterinary medicine.'
Basically hon there's not a lot they could do as there's no evidence that drugs will treat the problem efficiently.
Enteritis is just a blanket name for a range of conditions one of which is Salmonella. Apart from recommending that you step up hygiene to the highest level possible, which I assume you already have (and do) and something which your vet should have mentioned to you when the Diagnoses was confirmed, there's little to be done. I would think that that Hotdog was probably a little under par, not enough to notice and something which could well have just been a natural result of the winter changes to her system and that she was unlucky enough to become extra vulnerable. That's why its unlikely to have spread, unless, like us the animals pass fluids to one another orally they are very unlikely to pick it up. The extra hygiene is to ensure that all feces, etc that might carry the infection are removed, but even then in an animal whose immune system is at full whack they are unlikely to develop the illness. The sad thing is that at another time the illness might not have had this sad result.
Hopefully that might help to lessen your worry about your other Cresties and this is something that will naturally disappear by itself so keep up extra cleaning and although difficult try not to worry too much, hopefully this info will help you to see that there really wasn't anything you could have done, you really did do all you could sweetheart
I hope that helps you babe, losing one is hard enough without knowing why it happened and we all do the 'did I do enough' thing

Thankyou for taking the time to leave such a detailed reply Emma. It has eased my worrying, I'll try stop beating myself up over all the 'what if's..
I will make sure the tanks and such are thoroughly sterilized and hopefully the other 2 cresties will be fine.
They're not showing any signs of anything being wrong, both have good appetites and are nice and lively, I just hope it stays that way! _________________

Your more than welcome sweetheart, its heartbreaking to lose any animal and I know how special these little guys are so I can totally understand how you are feeling. We do all beat ourselves up and if I have managed to help you with that in any small way then its the very least I could do babes,
Hugs
