|
|
Hey all,
We have just had a 6hr powercut here.
Managed to keep the three Royals in the 70's using duvets (covering the vivs). But here's my question, I want to buy some sort of room heater, not powered by the mains for use in powers cuts. What do you guys suggest? What do the large collection keepers use?I'll post this in the royals section to, as its just Royals I keep and I'd be interested to know what fellow keepers do. (please remove mods, if this is not permitted).
Cheers

last summer we had a 4 day power cut.... it was that bad we couldnt leave the house to get alternative power... I wasnt so much worried about the animals as i knew they would be ok but my incubating eggs were a concern..... I still havent got a solution sorted, it will be interesting to here whats peoples ideas are _________________ My website isn't quite there yet, as I got bored half way through writing it.

Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about your animals having any major, long term problems as a result of a power outage, especially one that lasts less than 12 hours.
If the power was out for a longer period, then yes, i would consider investing in a small generator, realistically though, how many times over the course of a NORMAL year, is there a power cut, let alone one that lasts longer than a couple of hours? Your choice of course. _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

I'm not to worried about heating the house and our cooker is gas so I can always cook or make coffee, but we are going to be getting a beast of a UPS for the incubators, just in case, especially next season when practically everything in our reptile collection will be breeding, that don't know how many balls will be ready yet obviously. We use a UPS a lot anyway as we have all our IT equipement especially the file server hooked up to it. We lost our last server due to a power outage, and we had a UPS but we'd re-arranged and someone forgot to plug the server back into it
Also, we couldn't run a genny, the neighbours would send the police round, and I get fed up of making them coffee etc _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Because of the noise of the Genny Oh the stories I could tell you about the old crone that lives next door She sent the police round just after we moved in because we lit the BBQ, she thought we were going to burn her fence down. Still the copper who came had a nice burger and a glass of pop, it was my daughter birthday _________________ www.draco2.co.uk
