Out of interest as I remember seeing somethin about this, I was wondering if anyone breeds without cooling their snakes and if so what the result was. I'm sure I've read that people have bred this way with favourable results, and if it means there is less risk of RI from the temp drops with good resulting clutches then personally I would be prepared to give it a go.
What's everyones opinions? _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

i remember hearing a reptile radio show with greg graziani and i dont think he cools for breeding. i think that some other breeders may go with light cycles.......-justin _________________ www.ocdreptiles.com |

I thought about the light cycles Justin, that's why I'm going to install a full spectrum day light bulb in my reptile room and put it on a timer so I can adjust it for the relevant hours of daylight. I would think that in the wild they don't always have the same sort of controlled temperatures that we can create in captivity, and I would certainly prefer not to cool if it was a feasible option as I don't like the idea of them getting RI and the added stress it would put on them, especially the females if they have locked.
Johonny, like the bike, the woman is not my type More proof in the difference of the sexes, I saw the bike first and the woman second Johonny, do they breed balls or another species, and what is their success rate, ie, does it affect the number of eggs they get or the fertility of them etc etc etc _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

Cool Pardon my ignorance as I know nothing about boas yet, but is the breeding process similar to that of Ball Pythons? I looking to get as much info as possible so I don't go into next season blind, and I'm fully aware of all the possibilities
I do however like boas, but the sheer size of them worries me both from a care perspective and being able to give them a suitable sized home, I would personally like to keep them in something room sized, but we'd have to move house first Or sell the kids _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

I had an interesting conversation with an African ball python breeder and he just laughed at the thought of cooling them and said temperature drops aren't needed at all, he wouldn't actually say what, if anything he did but his results speak for themselves. _________________

I'm with you Pete, I don't get what all the fuss is about either, I've had to buy a new freezer as my teenage daughter kept complaining about the rodents, mind you I did keep offering her them with chips
That's very interesting Scott, I certainly prefer the prospect of not cooling and less risk of RI. I want my snakes to breed, but I don't want to make them ill to do it. I know I certainly don't like being cooled I'm definately NOT a winter sort of person, which is why our house is like the tropics, but my other species aren't complaining, they are dirty dancing all over the place at the moment, it's just the hubby, kids and dogs that aren't best chuffed _________________ www.draco2.co.uk
