Hi All!!!

i have a 6X2 tank for my 9 month old bosc, hes about 18" now and growing quick.

I want to create a 'walkabout area' so i can leave a door open on his Viv and create an area which he can sleep and potter around in during the day whilst I'm at work so hes not constricted to the tank he will eventually outgrow. My plans are to put a thick roll up vinyl on the floor directly underneath his Viv.

Then create a wall (about 3 foot) which he cannot climb up surrounding the vinyl. Does anyone know what i could build this wall with? i was thinking something like sand filled bases (so he cant push them over like the ones used for roadworks to section off areas) that connect and with a plastic wall, i need to be able to disconnect it all as i wont be set up 24/7.

Is this at all possible????

Does anyone have a clue what i could use or any ideas at all?????
Thanks Very Happy Embarassed Very Happy

You could make a fold-up wall out of plywood (say 1.6cm thick exterior ply), use sturdy hinges (gate hinges) alternating on each side of the wall (panel A would be hinged externally to panel B, panel B would be hinged internally to panel C, panel C would be hinged externally to panel D, etc).
By attaching 2 thick 'coach bolts' (the type of bolts used on gates) to each panel forming the lengths (but not the corners) of the 'wall', you can lock the wall into position so he can't push the panels (I would attach both the hinges and bolts by drilling through the plywood and using nuts and bolts with washers, since screws might not be strong enough).
You could attach 'fixings' (maybe more bolts) to the viv, to enable the wall to attach to the viv, or make enough panels for the wall to surround the viv, so he can roam around it (although this is not a good idea if you have power cables behind the viv).
When you take the wall down, it can be folded flat to store it out of the way, and if the 2 ends of the wall are attached to the viv (or to a wall in the room), the structure will be sturdy and won't be something he can push over.
If this doesn't come over very well, let me know and I will post a diagram.

Edit: The plywood will need to be varnished, I would use an exterior grade 'tough' varnish, since this will resist claws and be 'wipe clean'.

that sounds good cheers dude, but what would i use for support to keep the wall upright???? I'm a little confused i think,

when i handle him he tries to push past my arm or leg and i can feel he has alot of power already so they will have to be pretty sturdy so he cant knock them over or even move them out of place. . . .

Just make a base for the plywood walls basic _| |_ where the ply would sit in and have support from both sides.

If each segment of the wall is securely bolted together with strong gate hinges, then both ends of the walls attached to a secure point (viv or wall), the best he could do would be to shift it left or right, since it will be anchored at both terminating ends of the wall.

Alternatively you could do a stand as MJ suggested, however I would still secure the ends (since for a stand to be secure it would need to be wide, otherwise the Bosc could theoretically climb up the wall and push it over).
