mike h wrote: | Sorry but if she was over fed she would have typical stretched scales, she is well proportioned and growing in all the right directions extremely well, When she hits the 1000grm mark I will cut her back to weekly feeds but much larger food about 100/130grms(she will let me know). At the moment she is on 40/50 grm weaners 2/3 times a week which is about 40grms a week more than if I was giving her one proper sized meal a week.
I am hoping to breed her 08/09 season, her second winter so long as in october she is 1500grms.
Her mum was 1500grms when I started to cycle her(2200grms when she ovulated) went down to 1600grms after egg laying, she produced 7 babies and has since august put 800grms on and is breeding again
She is currently 2400grms and pounding a 300grm rat every 7 days, even her hubby is feeding, he needs it though they were locked for 3 days solid earlier this week.
What do other people think??
Should I keep feeding her up or put her on a diet??

sounds good to me mike

well i probably wouldnt diet her, but i wouldnt be 'feeding her up' either. females carrying more fat find it harder to lay eggs. we all think differant. thats my opinion. _________________

To be fair to lynne she in right, you can over do it, but we have all got to decide on the individual snake at the time.
Some are happy to go at a reasonable rate eating say weekly and do brilliant, others feed heavily for periods then pull back, at the moment she is feeding heavily and I am listening to lynne and will be carefull not to over do it.
Her dad on the other hand gets fed when I remember he needs to eat , that is probably why he never refuses.
thanks all

My opinion. Lovely looking Albino. I personally don't agree with power feeding animals. They tend to lay down a lot of fat which can compromise breeding, it can also shorten the animals life span considerably, you may only get a few seasons breeding from her. I would start reducing her feeds now to every 7-10 days on an appropriate sized food item. _________________ Steve |

Superb albino Mike, and 900g's in 5 months in about as high as I've ever heard .
My biggest is approx 650. Mine all tend to get fed every 4 days, although that's not set in stone, often they will miss a complete week or occasionly they get a meal two days in a row.
Personally Mike I can't see anything wrong with that snake, doesn't look like it's fat, just a nicely filled out snake.
The term 'power feeding' really makes me laugh, it sounds like you are holding the snake down and forcing it to eat when it doesn't want to. In reality all you are doing is feeding ad-hoc and letting the snake decide if it's ready for another meal. You wouldn't say I'm power feeding my hamster just because it has access to food 24hours a day _________________
