|
|
For those who have been on here a while now, you may remember postings about our female Yemen Cham Bud.
As a young adult she became gravid and laid eggs about every 3 months, ie twice as often as usual. We knew this was taking quite a toll on her little body, but she's always been in tip top condition and a happy little lizard.
All was OK until last episode when eggs got stuck half way through laying. Whipped her off to the vets, jab and observation, out came eggs ... phew, over that episode. Well now, 6 months later, we have egg binding problems again. She had a jab on Tuesday, no movement yet, another trip to vets today and quite frankly we thought, that's it we're are going to have to let her go. Vet gave her another jab as he said it could take 2 shots. However we have just been told this may not be her last chance... We have a brill rep vet in Ipswich and he has given us hope of a 3rd option ... after a good going over vet said Bud, despite being nearly 4 years old, has a 50/50 chance of pulling through an op to remove eggs and spey her at the same time. If successful this could give Bud another year or two of happy healthy life.
As with all reps, it's a risk to operate, but if she doesn't lay the eggs over the weekend, we are going to lose her anyway (once the eggs go hard that's it, and we wouldn't let her suffer).
So fingers crossed she lays the eggs, alternatively , lets hope our little super star is as healthy as looks and pulls through the op.
Will keep you posted, but at least we now have another option and her days may not be so shortly numbered. Fingers and toes all crossed. |

Have put her in temporary accommodation as she was wobbling and didnt want her to fall and hurt herself or damage the eggs. |

Well today's teh day, no eggs laid so it's back to the vets to see if op is feasable. She had a special weekend and although a bit weiry looks good. We have been hand feeding her crics, hoppers and worms, 2 baths a day and syringe drinkies so she has as much energy as possible to get through today. She sat on sofa with dad last night watching Erogan
Whatever happens today she wont have suffered at all, so finger X'd and I'll post update later .

Op is done, turned out to be pretty major so only 50/50 that she will come round
Turns out some infection already started but her ovaries were still producing. Vet said he'd never seen so many eggs. Op went well, but was very traumatic on bud little body so she may not come through. but she is asleep now and in no discomfort. Will know more in an hour. |

Vet removed over 40 eggs and had to cut a rib to get them all out. Gave Bud a shot of anti-biotic and we have drops to give each day to fight against ind=fection BUT - she's still with us, eating, drinking and pooping. She is resting now in her 'hospital bed' - a bag with fluffy hot water bottle and towel zzzzzzzzzzzz
Hopefully she will gather strength as the days go by.
We had no idea this op could be done, hopefully it's turned out to be a lifesaver for Bud. |
