no, i havnt see a cinny in the flesh, but the point i was trying to make is that i do not think they are £1000 better looking than a wild type, or a pastel say. people are spending money on them because they are rare.
What i was wondering was whether the market for rare morphs will hold up, based on their rarity value alone.

Supply and demand, pure and simple.

I have a friend that paid over £10'000 for his cinny Wink (over $20'000 for his first spider Shocked )

I'm sure his spider has earnt him way over £90'000 back so that wasn't a bad deal at all, even if they are down to £500-£800.

The market for morphs is WAY bigger now than it was 5 years ago BUT the supply was way smaller back then too, hence the prices.

I think it's great that prices are now creeping down to a price where people will start buying them PURELY for their beauty with NO intention of breeding them. Currently I would suggest that 99% of all morphs bought are bought with the intention of breeding.

The biggest market is the pet market not breeders market, so once those price hit that level the demand will out strip supply big time (just think 50'000 cf balls are exported every year...do you really think breeders could produce that number in captivity?)

Lynne,

If you pair a lesser and a normal, it may cost you £1500 ish for that.
You only have to hatch one lesser and your well on your way to making your money back. The year after you may have to hatch 2 lessers, but you made your money back in year 1, so everything else is a bonus.
Its the people who think they will make millions in the first year that will crash and burn. Do the sums over 3-5 years and its a different story. Wink

On the other hand if you bought a mojo and a lesser, say, and you had borrowed money off a bad ass loan shark for them and you needed a bel to hatch to pay him, then you could say that the investment wasn't without risk Laughing

Just my view I take when I'm deciding if I can afford another. It all depends on your attitude towards risk, and if you can afford to lay out the money over a few years.

I think it's almost a no brainer, whatever morph you buy you should only need to breed it once to break even (at worse) from there on out it's all good Very Happy

Obviously there are things that can go wrong (death or infertility) but % wise that's quite rare for well kept snakes.

I certainly wouldn't advise someone with no genuine interest in snakes to get into breeding royals for profit BUT if you love snakes and enjoy royals then I think there a great snake to keep with the added bonus of some fantastic mutations and a great opportunity to have a hobby that can fund itself and maybe put a little extra in the bank too Wink

This topic is always coming up, have a look through this forum.

Prices go down, if you like the snakes it wont bother you.

I dont know why it bothers so many people especially people
that do not have much or any money in the market.

IMO

I enjoy reading it too.
Just some people carry on about it. [not neccersarily people on here]
Allot of people have done very well out of royaks, and there wont be
many more 10's of thousand of pound royals.
I think the royal market id very interesting and my mum
thinks a snake that is 500 quid is very expensive - she will never learn.

Right I will shut up! lol

some people who dont appreciate snakes will obviously think £500 is ridiculous, but then the person saying this had an £1100 Rhodesian ridgeback..... over 500 quid for a dog..... must be mad . . .its all down to the individual Laughing
