I guess it all boils down to the fact that animal specific paperwork provides the buyer with a degree comfort and piece of mind, that the normal looking animal does actually have the underlying, desired, trait. For me though, I would say that the reputation of the breeder is far more of a guarantee than any piece of paper!!!!
Interestingly, 3 years down the line, if the animal proves NOT to be what the paperwork says it is, would there be any LEGAL comeback on the original seller based on a piece of paper? _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

A good point there. By breeding hets you're never guarenteed visual trait offspring so who's to say your luck hasn't just been bad anyway _________________ A lil bit of Madagascar

Well after giving it some thought and reading the comments in this thread, I have decided to produce certificates for all the royals I breed and sell.
The two main reasons I decided were not really mentioned in the thread though
Firstly as proof that the snakes were actually supplied by me and clearly stating who the breeder was. This will hopefully stop people further down the line saying that this is a Scott Wilkinson/CaptiveBred python when it isn't or to help prove it was
Secondly to help buyers who may of bought several animals (especially hets) keep a visual record so that if the snakes are ever mixed up, then hopefully the photo ID will be good enough to spot the correct snake.
I have decided to keep an on-line record so that anyone can log on and check their snakes origin etc.
For my own bred animals I will also add a genetic history i.e. who the parents were and their genetics too.
Here's a link to the page http://www.captivebred.co.uk/records.htm let me know what you think of the certificates and the idea, thanks _________________

Cracking idea Scott, but is it not going to be an awful lot more work for you ? I was very happy with the animals I had off you, and the basic photo id's you sent me were brilliant. The blood lines is a nice touch though, it's nice to know who their mummys and daddies were, but mainly for the knowing, not for any other particular reason for me. _________________ www.draco2.co.uk

thanks Claire, hopefully it shoudn't take too much more work, it's taking the photo that's the biggest pain but I need those anyway, adding it to a PDF is pretty easy. _________________

Very good indeed Scott. My clients have received a Certificates of Authenticity with their new purchase for the last few seasons.
For me, it does create more of a workload but i enjoy record keeping and this helps me maintain accurate records of my animals.
I will post a copy of my certificate when i get home!! _________________ Fraser Gilchrist

Ah, the good old PDF, how did we ever live without it
I know ALL about the taking pictures being a pain Incidently on the subject of pictures, some of your piccies on your available page are either not working or going to the wrong image _________________ www.draco2.co.uk
