Just to say thank you so much for all the advice - it was invaluable and those sites you recommended Stuart were a godsend and led to me asking lots of questions and spending over an hour in the shop while I made them go through the functions and having a go with different lenses etc!!!
I have not uploaded pictures yet as still playing but hold this space!!! ( but not your breath!!)

I got a AF-S Nikkor lens 18-55mm which came with it and I also got a AF-S Sigma 55-200mm lens. I also got a AF lens 70-300mm which has a macro function also which I have used and is great but I think when I get to grips a bit more I will go for a true macro lens so I can get in closer to my subjects!!!. Also I already want one with a better zoom!! I can see this is going to cost a lot of money but will need more practice time first!!
Not had much chance today to take more pictures - still reading through the manual!!!
Still chuffed though!!!!
