What is the best substrate for a bosc. Some people say bark but I think they can get a gut impaction from that. Any suggestions? _________________ Man made beer, God made cannabis. Who do you trust? |

For the Bosch monitors i have kept and keep i have always used a medium sized orchid bark mix, into the mix i put soil, orchid bark, sphagnum moss and play sand. I find this keep it a little humid and has the ability to withstand any foraging the animals do.
As for impaction unless you are going to keep it on tiles or lino then anything can be impacted a topic earlier this year even showed a neonate snake that had passed a full piece of kitchen towel.

Hi 'ultimate_boides' that sounds like a good bosc substrate,
out on interest what % of each substrate do you use to make your substrate mix????
Might do something like this for my bosc. _________________ Curently Keeping:

Soil and playsand sounds good to me, they say about 2 foot, but I keep my 2 males on about 12" with plenty of caves and hideaways built in across the cage.

Hi there
My 2yr old and my 6 month old are on play sand. Easy to seive and keep clean. I also keep a huge stainless steel bowl of water and the big guy has a swim, does his 'business in it' and easy to dipose of. The wee one however...'she' will ensure all water is out of bowl and tank is a mess...
anyone else do this?? _________________ 1.0.0 Argentinian B & Tegu

I use eco earth
Used to use soil and sand, but find that the eco earth looks nicer and smells better if soiled _________________ Carolina, Lavender, Snow, Amel Corns, Everglades Rat, Pueblan Milk x2, Madagascan Day Gecko, Bosc Monitor, Leopard Gecko, Hog Island Boa, 2 x Dwarf Boa, Dwarf Retic, Tokay, Collared Lizards, Desert Iguana, Kitten, Blood Python, Royals, 2x Staffies |

my bosc always uses the waterbowl as the toilet, at first i thought it was a pain but its really a blessing, just have to change his water more each day lol, better than sifting through the substrate _________________ 0.1 Coastal Carpet
