hey had a thought, of using plastic piping to act as additional hides. Around 4" diameter for younger snakes and larger diameter for the bigger fellows.
Can any one share some convincing arguments why this may not be a good idea, what would the chances be of an animal getting stuck in one should it be the wrong diameter?
At the moment it's just a thought as it would be easy to clean reusable and light on the pocket if having to furnish many vivs. _________________ retierd and spending my childrens inheritance. |

Just make sure the ends of the tube are not accessible to the snakes..heard of a few horror stories regarding bamboo tubes! _________________

no idea if it should be used with snakes but it is something im going to use in my crested tank when i get round to getting some ..
i will bore some holes into the side of it so there is more than one entrance and exit ..
good for hiding in and climbing on _________________ Eyeless frogs welcome...

do you mean the whole pipe or do you mean cutting the pipe in half length ways?
I you use a whole piece of pipe how will you get to the animal if you need to, except for tipping the pipe on end and trying to get the snake to slide out?!?! I'd cut the pipe in half length ways so that the snake can go under the pipe but you can just lift the pipe up to get to the animal.
You could also scorch the pipe with a gas torch. If you use white piping this has the effect of making the pipe look a bit more wood/log like.
cheers

presumably to end up with 2 semicircular pieces, cant see any real problems apart from the bulk and weight of larger snakes might preclude any stability of the hide if its made of light plastic. _________________ we all have the spark of divinity within us, but are we responsible enough to use it? |

If using a whole pipe would it not roll around.
If using a 4" diameter pipe cut in half, this would only give you 2" or 50mm at the high point which to me seems rather low.
How many snakes per viv? _________________ Steve |

I use squareline guttering, it comes in several finishes, of which one is brown, so it doesn't stand out too much in a viv.
I just buy a 2m length for about £5 and cut it to length.
