Great thread and discussion!

Kelvin nailed the most important point here ;

What I mean by that is I watch my animals habits and by studying them I learn what they want and need

More often then not, we as keepers tend to impose conditions on our captives. It really boils down to the individual Royal, although, we would just love if they were all ready to breed at the same time.

I start cooling October 1st and start introducing pairs around November 1st. Mostly males to females quarters and a few females visit the males, I never really seen a difference from one to the other.

As previously mentioned, some like cooling their animals and some don't, nobody can claim that their recipe is the best one. The main advantage I see in cooling my animals is the amazing feeding response I get from both sexes, particularly females that don't necessarily have the proper breeding weight. Most of my females become ravenous feeders after a few weeks of cooling, the slimmer and pickier feeders just pack in the food and weight and most just stop feeding in January and begin their accelerated follicular growth. I believe copulations at this time are the most important ones, specially during and after sheds...

My 2 pence's worth Very Happy
