what probe is in the middle?? the probe for the stat goes on the mat. it controls the heat the mat will go to and then switch off at. so what probe do you mean?
this is how my corns are set up in vivs. they are in 3ft vivs. two holes drilled in wall of viv, one for heat mat cable, one for stat probe. i take plug off mat, thread the cable through hole then reattach plug. get mat set up. ie stuck to floor. put probe through its hole and tape it to mat. set stat to temp required, and plug mat into stat and stat into wall socket. cover the mat with the plastic and newspaper and substrate. start to measure heat the mat is going to, preferably with an infra red gun. keep doing this, adjusting the stat till you get the heat you want.
corns are a diff heat to royals. you will be aiming for a hot end heat of 92. i dont use bulbs etc only mats.

First of all what size viv are you using for your royal.I would be tempted to tweak the temp up slightly on the hot side to 88-90 as long as you can keep the cool end in the lower 80's.Also how old is the royal. The moss box will help no end with the shedding but also what substrate are you using in the viv?
