I've got all my little ones in 9 Litre Really Useful Boxes, with a couple of 5mm holes drilled into each end, and I've got them on 6" heat strips, I've got a pulse stat controlling all of them, a digital thermometer in the cool end at the front so I can see the cool end temp, and the probe in the hot end to monitor the hot spot on top of the heat mat. If using hides 1 in each end, I've got my water bowls in the cool end, but can be moved closer to the warm end to up the humidity when they are in shed. I don't know how secure those lids are unless you weight it down from above, and I would personally have thought that there would be too much ventilation in the Faunarium, but if you are planning on putting it inside a larger viv until your little one is bigger then it should be ok. That book I enjoyed. I've also got kitchen roll on the floor as it makes it easy to clean, and the other benefit of the really useful boxes it that they disinfect nicely, as I would guess those Faunariums would as well. I've got double the amount of tubs, so I can have one in use and one to move the snakes into when they need to be cleaned out etc. It's not easy trying to clean out a tub with a snake wrapped around your wrist, I know, I've tried Smile

Others will probably be able to be more help though Smile

Personally I hate heat mats, you can't get the ambient temperature up high enough, mat stats aren't much use either as there are no increments for temperature on the dial, they are a bit hit and miss if you ask me. I would be inclined to use a ceramic or tubular heater (both Guarded of course) or a heat cable and a pulse proportional thermostat. You would do well to invest in hand held digital thermometer, the better ones also have a laser, so it is just a case of aiming the laser at a particular area of the enclosure and you will get an instant temp reading, these are extremely accurate.
Apologies for waffling.

I haven't had any trouble with my mats and ambients, might be to do with them running on a Pulse Stat maybe? I've got my ambient temps about about 80f +/- 1 degree. And the hot spots are sitting at about 90-92f.

NEWPYTHON, Really Useful Boxes you can get from Argos, Staples, Woolworths, or direct from www.reallyusefulbox.co.uk something like that, just type it into google. I've got my 07's in 9 Litre size at the moment and they are around about 3 months old, the heat mat would need to be underneath the outside at one end and cover about 1/3 to a maximum of 1/2 the bottom of the tub. I've got 2 5mm holes drilled into the front narrow end and back end giving a through draught. My Ambient room temerature in the room they are in is at about 70 - 75f (I don't like the cold either). Put a small water bowl in the cool end I'm using 5" ceramic bowls so they can't tip them over, and kitchen roll as a substrate. You can put a small hide in each end as well so the snake can choose where it wants to be. Mine are all on a rack which gives them some extra security, but if you just have the one tub, you could maybe set it up on a shelf and perhaps put a piece of cardboard on top of the lid to give some extra darkness for security until it's settled down.

Hope that helps.

That depends on how you define 'Best Buy' If you mean cheapest then probably the kit. The benefit of spending extra on useful boxes and Pulse Proportional Thermostat is that you can expand later on if you want to and the pulse stat is by far the best controllable stat for my money, others may have other opinions and it's personal preference as well.

I think it's the difference between having a happy healthy snake, and vet bills, which are never ceap. But I never do anything by half, and research everything thoroughly before I do anything. Very Happy

what size is that tub. you get differant sizes. and to be honest, they are fine for the snakes. put the heatmat under it with the probe on the heatmat. 3 of my smaller ones are in these, the rest are in really useful boxes. but you do get various sizes, so check what size thi is. and you get a stat too, lots of starter packs dont give you a stat. also, check the lids on right and the wee windows a shut properly.
