I personally know about five new species which are currently being worked on/described from Papua, Indonesia alone, however since there is nothing which can be reported on them at the moment, I have chosen not to post nothing about them. Bragging about knowing "privileged" information isn't not my cup of tea either...[/quote]

Come on guys we often HEAR about new species and new morphs on the reptile grapevine long before the rest of us mere mortals get to see them.
Its exciting to hear about such things in the pipeline weather or not a complete explanation comes with it. The main thing is i think, is that work in the field is being done and we are becoming more and more knowledgable about the species on our great planet. I am glad there are some people that can unofficially liase information to us. There is no harm done and i am sure none intended. Laughing
I have only just become a member of this forum but i am amazed when you put all the jokes and daft remarks to one side,,,you know who you are !!! Very Happy There is a fantastic amount of knowledge between all the people on this forum alone.. So come on lets not nit pick and get on with whats important and pull together for our hobby.
ITS GREAT INNIT !!!

The reason why I commented here, is that these 'ambiguous' posts by Sean are not uncommon, and I would assume them to be frustrating to many readers of this forum who are here for information (they are at least frustrating to me).

I would say that a good proportion of his posts are nothing more than photos which show off his animals. Now this is fine, and I always enjoy seeing other people's animals- especially those not commonly seen or photographed. However, when it comes to sharing husbandry advice or other information which could be of value or potentially helpful to other enthusiasts, Sean often "doesn't care to comment". To me, I see such repeated behavior as being rather selfish, which leads me to believe that he is here just to 'advertise' his animals or brag about information divulged only to him.

Now I completely understand that nobody is forced to share their information with others and that it is pure choice. However, I perceive message boards and fora like this one as places to help progress the hobby through sharing valuable information and experiences with others. Without the sharing of information between peers, fora such as this one could not exist (or at least be worth reading). I suppose that I just do not agree with, nor see the plight of those only interested in using such fora as a platform for bragging and showboating (or advertising).

Quotes like:

"I have a good idea what triggered it off but that's a trade secret"

are upsetting for me to read, as they do absolutely nothing to help out other hobbyists or contribute to the hobby. I would personally like to see the international varanid hobby progress, as there is still so much to learn. The internet has created an incredible stage for this to be achieved.

Attitudes like this however, do nothing to help move the hobby in a positive direction.

Here I was told of a possible new sub-species of glauerti found in a location not previously documented and also of a new population of another odatria species, all these animals differed in pattern, size and colouration to what we already know.

Are you not reading what I put it clearly says the animals found in this location differed in pattern, size and colouration.

I know your curiosity wants to know but I cannot give exact details until it is officially made public by the team carrying out the study. If you cannot see this then thats your problem.

I have to agree with Bob, and Martin, along with what they have said.

You post photos of some great looking animals, but mearly that's it.

Well when you do 'know more' and it's let out, please post it.

Cheers,
Chad

yes I agree. Keep the teasers to yourself until you have adequate info. These do appear to be bragging threads.

You can turn it into what ever you like all I told you was there is a study going on to separate a group into sub-species ( glauerti ) and of another odatria species found in another location. How you contrive that into something different is beyond me. I do not know how long for sure you have been into or keeping varanids but I have over 20 years experience in that field and in that time I have met hundreds of interesting people and seen many things, in doing so I get to travel around I am not someone who sits in thier bedroom and doesn't leave their state reciting information.

If you want more info I suggest you contact Dr Robert Seipp.

@ sean

okay, letīs come to an end. thanks for telling us the fact, that there are some unknown odatria species. what is not new to some of us. more details would be nice for some of the members. but, as you too, some of us have more then one source for that kind of informations. so you donīt need to tell more. thx martin
