The little horns are called anal spurs and originate from being tiny legs from their ancesters. They are perfectly normal and shouldn't be pulled off. They are found on pythons and Boas.

Without seeing it, i wouldn't know if I would take him/ her to a vet. Personally, if you have concerns, then I would say yes to err on the side of caution. If its bleeding, or showing signs of any infection then definately.

Hopefully someone on here with more experience of this happening will be able to advice you as its never happened to me (well not personally losing an anal spur but my snakes losing any!).

in the meantime, keep the enclosure clean, make sure the area on the snake is clean and monitor it.

Sorry I can't be of much help.

he looks and seems fine and there is another much smaller spur in its place. there doesn't seem to be and damage to the scales surrounding.

THE BILL AT THE END OF THE MONTH???? how about the vets bill if your animals fall ill through hypothermia?????? THAT will be a darn site more than using a few more watts of electricity!,i cant really believe you are serious about that comment. if you are not prepared to heat your animals to proper temps in their vivs why have you got them? if you are worried about electricity use a thermostatically controlled small room heater which will at least raise the ambient temps within the room the snakes are in and wont cost a fortune to run,or to buy for that matter, and please try to remember, your snakes health and well-being are YOUR responsibility, they are entirely at your mercy. i think i will keep it a bit lower than 690f though, wouldn't be too chuffed with the bill at the end of the month lol

Hmm. Seems like the last message was written without the post being read carefully. I don't think there are any issues about heating and paying for heating of the enclosure.

I think that if you had read Lulu85 above comment carefullt, you would see that its meant as a joke as someone accidentally wrote 690f rather than 69f.

you know Lynne, the funniest thing happened today. I was just thinking of posting a picture of my anal spurs, when I sat down and they both broke off. Laughing
