hi steve, i did find some mentions of it albeit very sketchy,also there seems to be an element of confusion as some describe a boa,some a python,and others a GECKO!!!, quite probable that all 3 exist,but as far as i could find out about retics,it does not appear to be a dwarf species,and in light of the absence of any accurate information,i would regard any claims of one being sold with an element of suspicion,as owing to the rarity and exclusivity of such an animal ,it would be hyper-expensive.

" lively and nervy" and "do not consider them as pets", are hardly descriptions which are likely to inspire confidence in prospective purchasers, and again there is no mention of size in the description,i would conclude that this is NOT a dwarf species,and likely to be quite large and irascable in temperament. and at the risk of sounding "preachy",steve, do you REALLY want to involve yourself with wild caught animals? as this sounds very much like what is being proposed here,do be careful if you do proceed,that all papers regarding the legality of exportation/importation are in order.

what do so many people have against wild caught animals ??
in my opinion as long as they are treated and kept well its OK because you will need to get new blood lines in one way

as one aberdonian to another david, i dont have a problem with wild-caught specimens if its to start a captive bred lineage,especially if its likely to become endangered through over-vigorous collecting, my main concern here was for steve to be aware of possible legal infringements with the shipment, i dont like seeing people i regard as friends being taken for a ride by the unscrupulous,although that is not to say that there is necessarily anything illegal about the shipment,just a note to be cautious.
my general aversion to wild-caught specimens is that sometimes the animals are treated appallingly badly,with no regard whatsoever for their health or safety,and that kind of thing is neither good for the trade or the reptile hobby as a whole.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to re-iterate Steve's comment. My Halmaheras are scrubs not retics.

King cobra's comment "quite large and irascable in temperament" certainly applies to my Halmas and to most WC scrubs and I suspect WC Halma retics as well. Anyone who is looking to get into keeping WC retics or scrubs needs to have done their research, as most will be a handful to start with.

On the other hand, captive bred retics and scrubs are generally a different proposition. The problem with most scrubs is that very few people are working with them. You'll normally find CB Barnecks being offered, and from time to time, Tanimbars, but that's about it. Hopefully, that will change over the next few years!
